Instagram is no longer exclusive to kids as a fun app, it has quickly grown to be one of the go to social media platforms. Now it is a must for almost every business, factor in the recently launched IGTV, it is clear that Instragram is here to stay. It’s one of the most popular social networking sites on the planet, with over 200 million active monthly members sharing 60 million images and 1.6 billion likes per day.
Many brands are experience much higher levels of engagement some are seeing as much as 58 times more than Facebook. Remember persistence guarantees that results are inevitable. The following suggestions should help give a positive impact on your brand awareness.
Cross-promote your dedicated hashtag.
Do you have dedicated hashtags? You should have dedicated hashtags for your brand and dedicated hashtags for any marketing campaigns. #fcmedia Now how do you make sure people see this hashtag? Use it at every opportunity, not just online, if you do any other offline marketing promotions, ensure it is in that material.
An integrated marketing approach always gives the best results, ensure people cannot miss it.
Get creative with hashtagging.
Most social media platforms now use the hashtag to learn what is in your content. You need to look beyond the one-word, obvious hashtags. Yes, you need to include some of the obvious ones, but remember the old saying, if you always do what you always done, then you will always get what you always got. Mix it up and use hashtags to tell part of your story, think of them as bullet points to extend your story. Be funny, ironic, or outrageous–just don’t be BORING.
Participate in massively popular conversations.
For every post, use a mix of topically relevant hashtags, however make sure the hashtag is relevant to your content. Do not google popular hashtags and just insert them into your post. #buyraybands.
If you want to connect with a particular niche then really specific hashtags are like long-tail keywords in that they show more intent and help you find the right people, but the universally trending hashtags like #instagood, #tbt, #photooftheday or even plain old #fun get you in front of more people in general. You need both to make it on a social network as big and noisy as Instagram.
One of the biggest mistakes I constantly see on all social media platforms, the brand thinks that communication is one way. Don’t just post your content, find and comment on key influencers and hot topics, but keep it relevant. A great rule of thumb if you are not adding to the conversation, don’t say anything at all.
Make the most of your bio URL.
Your bio URL is a powerful tool and does not just need to be the home page of your website or blog. Instagram only gives you one URL so make use of it. Use your content to direct audiences to your URL.
“Check out my bio URL for an amazing deal” “Visit my profile click on the link to enter”
Change it up often, to gain some data to see drive people to your profile.
Get descriptive with your captions.
Yes, Instagram started off and is loves pictures, although looking at data and IGTV it is moving towards video. You can’t skip the words entirely. Use your words to add to the story of your content, it will increase engagement and sharing.
Over time you will create a brand voice.
Your writing will improve as you find your brand’s Instagram voice.
Influencer marketing go big or go home.
You need to identify a list of key influencers that your audience respects. Please bear in mind these people might not always be directly in your industry. For example a mortgage broker who targets nurses, would benefit from finding key influencers in the world of health care. Make sure you have turned on Post/Story Notifications, then you will be notified every time they share new content. You can then interact with them regularly and become one of their favourite people or brands.
Remove unwanted tagged photos of you from your profile.
If you only want to feature the best user-generated content about you or your brand on your Instagram profile, you can. Now, you can’t remove the tagged photos from the site entirely, by choosing “Edit Tags,” selecting the ones you want to remove and choosing “Hide from Profile” (you may need to confirm). It does the trick.
Approve photo tags before the content shows on your profile.
To give you greater control over which tagged photos appear on your profile, you can change your Instagram setting so tagged photos won’t show unless you approve them first. You’ll find this under “Options,” “Photos of You,” and “Add Manually.”
Imagine an internet troll creating damaging content and it automatically goes on your account.
Develop your own Instagram style.
It’s human nature to want to fit in, but on Instagram, you want to stand out. This is actually quite difficult and normally comes with time after trial and error and looking at the results. #backoftheheadphoto.
Even if you sell nationally, although compared to the world that is local. Test a specific area, see what is going on and join in. Simply go to the search page and choosing the Places tab. Then, type in the name of the place to see all geotagged posts for that location. Another reason to ensure you include some geo hashtags.
Remember your calls to action!
If you do not ask, you will not get. However, you cannot constantly ask for sales, it will get old and boring very quickly. However social media is about engagement and interaction, you want to create conversations, the algorithm will take note of that you are popular and bump you up the searches.
There you go it is that simple, it does take time, and often you need a fresh pair of eyes to help you along the way, after all you still have a business to run. Oh one last thing to follow or not to follow?
To briefly summarise, the following will help you get more followers on Instagram:
Identify and promote your dedicated hashtag on your other social profiles, on your website, and your email blast. Get creative with your hashtags. Be funny, ironic, or outrageous – but never boring! Watch topically relevant and trending hashtags. Join these conversations to get in front of more people. Use your bio link to drive traffic to your newest or most popular content. Write descriptive captions. Storytelling will help generate engagement and sharing. Interact with top influencers in your space and try to become one of their favourite people or brands. Don’t want a tagged photo of you or your brand on your profile? Edit Tags to hide images from your profile. Adjust your settings so any potentially embarrassing tagged photos won’t show without your approval. Develop your own unique, recognizable visual style. Figure out how you want to stand out and make it so! Visit the Places tab to see what’s happening locally – your neighbourhood, a city you’re targeting in ads, or an event in a certain location. Use a call to action to tell people what you want them to do with your posts. Find clever ways to get people to share your content.
All this takes time, which we do not all have. Need a hand with your marketing requirements, we can support and or implement your marketing program.
