Social Media Marketing
When used correctly Social media marketing is an amazing method for any business to reach new customers and stay engaged with existing customers. Indeed, with consistent correct communication, your existing customer may promote your business on your behalf.
I have yet to come across a business or enterprise who would not benefit from using any of the many social media platforms. Your stakeholders are using social media and if not already so should you.
However, how you engage with the world via social media will dictate your level of success. Having measurable achievable goals will aid you in your quest for social media marketing success.
Great marketing on social media can bring remarkable success to your business, creating devoted brand advocates and even driving leads and sales.
This form of marketing allows content that you or others have created to be shared via social media networks such as Facebook, Instagram, twitter etc. To achieve your marketing and branding goals, you will need to ensure that your content communicates effectively with your target audience, this is where the skill and marketing management comes into effect. So often I see brands large and small creating noise with their content rather than adding value to their audience and thus sustaining the growth of their business.
The key to a successful content marketing plan is at any given time understanding your audience and having an objective for each and every social media post.
Always start with a plan. The plan might be for one post, which fits into a larger plan of a mini-marketing campaign, which itself fits into a broader business plan. Any content created and shared needs an objective.
Some questions I like to ask clients when mentoring them on social media marketing are as follows:
Social media marketing will help with any number of marketing goals, such as:
Social Media Content Planning — Building a social media marketing plan is essential. You may consider undertaking some keyword research and competitive research to help give your plan some direction.
Great Social Content — To achieve great social content, you must understand your audience, what makes them engage with particular content? Will that change through time, will external factors change their engagement? With social media, content reigns supreme, how and what you want to say will be dictated by your audience unless you can cause a shift in their engagement habits.
Make sure you post regularly and offer truly valuable information that your ideal customers will find helpful and interesting.
A Consistent Brand Image — What are your brand values, every business has them, even if they are unaware. If you do not communicate your brand values, society will make them up for you.
Sharing Curated Links — While using social media for marketing is a great way to leverage your own unique, original content to gain followers, fans, and devotees, it’s also an opportunity to share content from others that your audience will enjoy. It sends a strong message to your audience when you advocate another’s content via sharing, it will also encourage the sharing of your content.
Tracking Competitors — Never take your eye off of your competitors, they can and will provide valuable data on engagement habits, hashtag trends, keyword research etc.
Measuring Success with Analytics — You can’t determine the success of your social media marketing strategies without tracking data. Most if not all social platforms offer analytics that you can use to monitor and measure your social media marketing success.
Social media marketing may appear to be easy, but to make it useful to the success of your enterprise takes current knowledge of the platforms, customer behaviour patterns and the understanding of the principles of marketing, finally the whole process needs to be monitored and managed.
